The zoo authorities are selling animals that exceed the zoo's capacity, and as part of this some deer are being sold. The price of a deer was earlier set at Tk 70,000, but it has now been cut to Tk 50,000.

The price was reset in a notification from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (Livestock-2) on Monday (6 September).

It said that, following the consent of the finance ministry, approval was given to reset the sale price of each surplus spotted deer at the National Zoo at Tk 50,000 instead of Tk 70,000.

Confirming this, National Zoo director Dr Md Abdul Latif told Jago News: "From today deer will be sold for Tk 50,000 instead of Tk 70,000. We have already sold 55 deer. From today we will sell them at the new price."

It is learnt that the government price of the fawns set aside for sale was Tk 70,000, but the zoo authorities had sent a proposal to the ministry concerned to lower it further. As the deer breed regularly, the zoo can now sell at least 20 fawns a month.
