National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 will be observed simultaneously across the country from 16 to 30 August 2026, and 14 entrepreneurs who have contributed to the fisheries sector will receive gold medals.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hand the gold medals to the selected entrepreneurs on 16 August at a national event in the haor district of Kishoreganj.
Announcement at press conference
Mohammad Aminur Rashid, minister for fisheries and livestock and for agriculture, gave the details at a press conference held by the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock on Thursday to mark the fortnight.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, ministry secretary Delwar Hossain, Department of Fisheries Director General Dr Md Khaled Konok and senior officials of the ministry and department were present.
The minister said National Fisheries Fortnight 2026 will be observed across the country from 16 to 30 August under the theme "Self-reliant in silver fish, Bangladesh before all". The central opening ceremony will be held on 16 August at the George Institute Mini Stadium ground in Achmita union of Katiadi upazila, Kishoreganj.
Medals in 13 categories
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will attend as chief guest, declare the fortnight open and distribute the medals. The National Fisheries Medal (gold medal) will go to 14 individuals and organisations in 13 categories, in recognition of special contributions to fish production, research, technology innovation, extension, administrative efficiency and entrepreneurship development.
