At least 25 people, including women and children, have been injured by jackal bites in Mymensingh. The incident took place on Sunday evening (25 August) in Charkharicha village of Sirta union in Sadar upazila.

Rezaul Karim Mintu, union parishad member for ward 4 of Sirta union, confirmed the matter to Jagonews.

He said he was not in the village that evening. "I got news by mobile phone from another village that a jackal was biting people at my house and in the village. When I tried to return home, my family phoned to say the jackal had come into our courtyard and bitten four people. Later my family members came with sticks and escorted me home. Out of fear of the jackal, people are going out in groups carrying sticks."

"As far as I know, a single jackal has bitten and injured at least 25 people. Many of the injured are being treated at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital," he said.

District Civil Surgeon Dr Md Nazrul Islam said he had no information about anyone being injured by jackal bites in Charkharicha village. He said he would be able to say how many people had been treated at the hospital after checking in the morning, but that there was an adequate stock of vaccine.
