Wild elephants have damaged at least 40 houses in border areas of Dhobaura in Mymensingh over three days, and destroyed crops on several hectares of land.

Locals said several wild elephants entered the settlement on Thursday night and wrecked houses. The elephant also ate paddy and rice stored in the houses and uprooted trees. The rampage began in the evening and went on until before dawn.

Humayun Kabir Sarkar, chairman of South Maijpara union, said he had visited the affected area and informed the administration, which has promised to help those affected.

Dhobaura upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Fouzia Naznin told Jagonews that at least 40 houses had been damaged in the elephant attacks over three days. A committee of the union parishad chairman, members and the local forest officer deals with such matters, and those affected have been asked to apply to the DG.
