Abdul Barek, a farmer in Mymensingh Sadar upazila, was worried about harvesting his ripe paddy because he could not find labourers. That worry lifted after Chhatra League leaders and activists cut the paddy on his 50 decimals of land and delivered it to his home, leaving the farmer very happy.

"I was very worried about harvesting because I couldn't find labourers. Now the Chhatra League leaders and activists have cut my paddy. I am very happy," Abdul Barek said.

From morning to afternoon on Tuesday (2 May), Tanvir Zobayer Islam, a former member of the central Chhatra League, and 30 leaders and activists of the organisation cut paddy for Abdul Barek in Alalpur village of Sadar upazila. They cut and bundled the paddy on his 50 decimals and delivered it to his home.

Tarin, a Chhatra League leader who took part, said that following the prime minister's directive, Bangladesh Chhatra League had called on its leaders and activists across the country to stand by struggling farmers. "As workers of the organisation, we learnt of farmer Abdul Barek's worries, so we cut the paddy on his land and delivered it to his home. All the Chhatra League leaders and activists who took part are happy too," he said.
