Musaddiq Mondol Rahat, a young man from Dayarampur village in Faridpur Sadar, began raising ornamental fish in two tubs with Tk 1,600. That farm now earns him Tk 500,000 to Tk 700,000 a month, Krishi Shomoy reports.

Rahat became interested in 2018, as a seventh-grader, after watching ornamental fish farming on YouTube. During the pandemic he bought Tk 800 of fish for each of two tubs on his roof, then moved into three tanks and began selling.

His farm now has 10 large ponds and 70 tanks, where he breeds and raises 20 species including zebra fish, comet, goldfish, koi carp, oranda gold, molly and guppy. His fish go to Dhaka, Khulna, Sylhet, Rajshahi and Chattogram. He says his fry sales come to about Tk 10 million a year, and this year he won an award for his work.

Nasrin Jahan, Faridpur district fisheries officer, says Rahat is getting technical advice and support, and his venture has become a promising example for young people.
