Seven people, including a child, have been injured by a jackal in Muradnagar, Cumilla. The incident happened on Saturday night (11 October) at Mochagara Daripara in Jatrapur union of the upazila.

Muradnagar upazila health and family planning officer Dr Sirajul Islam Manik confirmed the matter on Sunday afternoon (12 October).

The injured are Jubayer, 9, Mobarak, 19, Mainuddin, 38, Arif, 23, Abu Sayeed, 20, Rifat, 17, and Chan Mia, 64, all of Mochagara village.

Local people said the jackal suddenly attacked worshippers as they came out of the mosque after Maghrib prayers on Saturday. It first bit one person, then bit another on the leg, and attacked others in its path as it fled. Later that night local people got together and killed the jackal.

All the injured were admitted to Muradnagar Upazila Health Complex, where they were given first aid and vaccine.

Dr Sirajul Islam Manik said none of them is in a serious condition, and all have been advised to take their next vaccine doses on time.
