A python has been caught in a net set at a farmer's homestead in Nishanbaria union of Morrelganj upazila, Bagerhat. The snake is 8 feet long.

Members of the Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT) rescued the snake and released it into the Sundarbans on the afternoon of Tuesday, 27 August.

Barek Howlader, VTRT team leader in the Gulishakhali patrol post area of the Forest Department's Dhansagar station in the East Sundarbans, confirmed that the python had been released into the Sundarbans.

Nishanbaria union parishad chairman Saiful Islam said the python became trapped in the morning in the net used as a fence around the crop field at farmer Emadul Islam's homestead. On receiving the news, a VTRT team went to the spot and rescued it. The python is 8 feet long and weighs 8 kg.

Abdul Based, the forest staff member on duty at the Gulishakhali patrol post forest camp, said the snake was released into the Sundarbans in the afternoon.
