BRAC has held a tree-planting programme in Mongla to increase the climate resilience of coastal people and protect against natural disasters.

The programme was held on Thursday morning on the bank of the Pasur river in Kolatola village, Chila union, under the Rain for Life Project.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharmin Akter Sumi attended as a guest, and Md Nur Alam Sheikh, a central leader of Dhoritri Rokkhay Amra (DHORA), was special guest.

UNO Sharmin Akter Sumi said: "The government will plant 25 crore trees across the country in five years. BRAC's mangrove afforestation will play an important role in tackling the impact of climate change."

The opening ceremony, chaired by BRAC project operations manager Prokash Chandra Biswas, was also attended by BRAC officials Tripti Sardar and Sahana Begum, BNP leader Suraj Mondal and youth leader Emon.
