A farmer named Ruhul Amin has died of a snakebite in Meherpur. He was bitten by a snake on a village road at around 9.30pm on Friday (17 April).

His relatives took him to Kushtia Medical College Hospital that night, where he died. Ruhul Amin was the son of Ansar Ali of Motmura village in Gangni upazila.

Local people said the farmer went for a walk on the road beside his home at around 9.30pm on Friday to get relief from the heat, and was bitten by a snake. He quickly returned home and told his family, and a group of ojhas (traditional healers) treated him, said he had recovered and left. At around 2am he felt much worse and was taken to Kushtia Medical College Hospital that night, where he died while under treatment.

Gangni police station OC Uttam Kumar Das said police had been sent to the scene after news of a farmer's death from a snakebite in Motmura village of the upazila.
