About 22 venomous cobra hatchlings have been recovered from a house in the Garakhola area of Madhukhali municipality in Faridpur.

Snake charmers recovered the hatchlings from the house of Md Hasan Biswas in ward 4 of the municipality at around 11am on 9 August.

Hasan Biswas's elder son Sagor Biswas told Jago News that several snake hatchlings had been seen in different parts of the bedroom over two days. One by one, the household killed about 15 cobra hatchlings. Snake charmers were then called in, searched different parts of the house and recovered about ten more. The big snake, however, could not be caught, and everyone in the house is frightened.

Snake charmer Riaz Mia of Arpara village in Kamarkhali union told Jago News that a cobra lays 42, 32 or 22 eggs, which then hatch. On being informed, he recovered seven hatchlings from Hasan Biswas's house, and the household had killed about 15 more. The two big snakes could not be caught. In addition, a total of 96 venomous cobra hatchlings had been recovered over the past few days from various houses in the Mitain, Kamarkhali and Bagat areas of the upazila. "I keep them at home and feed them. When they grow up, I use them for snake shows," he said.

Local ward 4 councillor and panel mayor Md Anisur Rahman Liton told Jago News that when he went to Hasan Biswas's house on hearing the news, he found a very frightening situation. The household had noticed the snakes earlier and called the snake charmers, who came and took the venomous cobra hatchlings away. People from the neighbourhood crowded into the house to watch the snakes being caught.

Madhukhali municipality mayor Khandaker Morshed Rahman Limon told Jago News he had not gone there himself. He had heard from people that a snake charmer had recovered many snake hatchlings from Hasan Biswas's house.
