Everyone has a soft spot for pet dogs. But when a pet turns on the affection shown to it, people become helpless. A pet dog has mauled its own beloved owner to death in Lucknow, capital of the state of Uttar Pradesh in neighbouring India.

The octogenarian woman, Sushila Tripathi, has a son who works as a trainer at a gym. He is very fond of dogs and kept a Labrador and a pitbull. Sushila loved the dog named Brownie as much as the other dog and took them for walks every day. On the day of the incident she was going out to walk them when Brownie suddenly jumped on her and bit her again and again.

Sushila screamed, but at first no one came to help. After a while the domestic help noticed and rushed there, by which time the woman was covered in blood. Informed by phone by the domestic help, her son came home and took his mother to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

A post-mortem found 12 deep wounds on the woman's body, with bite marks all over her arms, legs, stomach and back, and a deep wound on her head. Doctors said the wounds suggested that the more she tried to escape, the more Brownie attacked her. Later, on seeing her son, the dog calmed down and came towards him. The question naturally arises how the three-year-old pet became so violent.

Such complaints about pitbulls are not new. Although the breed is not banned in India, people are advised to be careful about keeping it, as pitbulls often attack people and bite even their owners. The Lucknow incident is another example of pitbull aggression, the report said.
