Two langurs have died this February after being electrocuted by uncovered power lines in the Lathitila reserved forest area of Juri upazila in Moulvibazar. Another langur died the same way last October.

Md Rumijjaman, the forest department official in charge of the Lathitila beat, confirmed the deaths. He told Jago News that three langurs had died in the Kamalchhara area of the Lathitila reserved forest: two within one week in February and one last October. They were buried after they died.

Khurshed Alam, an environmental activist and member of the Patharia wildlife conservation team, told Jago News that the evergreen Lathitila forest is home to many kinds of wildlife. But if langurs keep dying like this, they will all soon be lost, he said, and steps to protect them are needed now.

Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, divisional forest officer of the Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division, said: "I have learned of this. It is sad news. We will talk to the power department and arrange cover protection for the electric wires so that no more accidents happen in future."
