After a nilgai, a langur (mukhpora hanuman) has now come to the Dinajpur border from India, crossing the barbed-wire fence. The langur has been seen roaming the Hili-Birampur border area for several days. Harassed by local people and unable to find food, it is quite exhausted.

Local people believe it is an Indian langur that climbed over the barbed-wire fence. Others say it entered Bangladesh on top of an Indian goods truck.

The langur sometimes sits on a mobile phone tower and sometimes on the roof of a tall building. When people see it, some throw stones at it while others give it food. After several days of going with and without food, the langur is very tired.

Manik Hossain of the Katla Chakandeb area said: "When I woke up in the morning I heard that a langur had come onto the mobile tower. I went there and saw a large crowd gathered to see it. The frightened langur had climbed the tower and was sitting there."

Asked whether any steps had been taken to rescue it, Nishikanta Malakar, ranger of the Birampur Charkar range, said: "We have already been informed about the langur. Local people have been asked not to harm it. Steps will be taken quickly to rescue it."

Birampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Parimal Kumar Sarkar said: "We have learned that for several days the langur has been moving around various places in the Katla area near the Birampur border. We have spoken to the forest department. The necessary measures are being taken to rescue it."
