Two people, including a farmer, have died after being bitten by Russell's vipers in Daulatpur, Kushtia, according to the report. They died while under treatment at Kushtia General Hospital on Wednesday morning (28 May).

They are Kalu Halsana (35), son of the late Naharul Islam of Garabpara in Daulatpur union of the upazila, and Kamruzzaman Pramanik (50), a farmer of Jagannathpur union in Kumarkhali.

Kamruzzaman's nephew Solaiman said he was clearing a banana plantation in a char field at around 11am when a Russell's viper bit him. Kamruzzaman killed the snake, and he was taken to Kushtia General Hospital with the snake to help with treatment. He died there about 30 minutes later.

Separately, Kalu of Gabargara in Daulatpur was bitten by a snake at around 5am when he went to collect fallen mangoes in an orchard next to his house. He was taken to the 250-bed Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Kushtia General Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Hossain Imam said one death had been confirmed as caused by a Russell's viper bite. The other death was from a snakebite, but whether it was a Russell's viper had not yet been confirmed.
