Kishoreganj's tasty rata boro paddy and Austagram's paneer have been registered as geographical indication (GI) products.

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Khan received the registration certificates for rata boro paddy and paneer on Wednesday (30 April) at an event organised by the Ministry of Industries at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka to mark World Intellectual Property Day 2025.

The district administration confirmed it in a post on its Facebook page on Wednesday night. The post said the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks under the Ministry of Industries held a discussion and GI certificate distribution in the multipurpose hall of the Foreign Service Academy (state guesthouse Sugandha, 22 Bailey Road) for World Intellectual Property Day 2025. Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Khan received the GI certificates for Kishoreganj's rata boro paddy and Austagram's paneer. The post called the recognition an important achievement for Kishoreganj's agriculture and food industry that would help raise the quality and reputation of local products.

At the event, 24 products from different regions of the country, including Kishoreganj's rata boro paddy and Austagram's paneer, received GI registration certificates.

The event was chaired by Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman. Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, music director Armin Musa, officials of the Bangladesh Handloom Board, deputy commissioners (DCs) of the districts concerned and members of the Nakfazli Mango Growers' Cooperative Society of Badalgachhi upazila in Naogaon were present.

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Khan said the GI recognition of Kishoreganj's rata boro paddy and Austagram's paneer was an important achievement for the district's agriculture and food industry and would help raise the quality and reputation of local products.
