The Chhatra League has begun cutting farmers' paddy and bringing it home for them in Kishoreganj. On Wednesday (26 April), led by district Chhatra League organising secretary Lutfar Rahman Nayan, activists cut the paddy on six bighas belonging to farmers Moti Mia, Shahjahan and Joynal in the Maria area of Sadar upazila and delivered it to their homes.

Lutfar Rahman Nayan said the Kishoreganj district Chhatra League had cut, threshed and brought home farmers' paddy in response to an instruction from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. "We will stand by farmers throughout the harvest season. Wherever we hear that farmers cannot cut their paddy because of the labour shortage, we will rush there," he said.

Farmers Moti Mia, Shahjahan and Joynal said: "We were very worried about harvesting the paddy on our land. The Chhatra League brothers did us a great favour by cutting our paddy and taking it home. We are grateful to them."

Many farmers are in difficulty over the harvest because of labour and financial shortages. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has therefore called on party activists to stand by farmers, and in response Chhatra League activists in Kishoreganj, as elsewhere in the country, are cutting paddy and bringing it home for farmers.
