A week-long sacrificial cattle market has opened on the Joragate market grounds in Khulna. The city corporation's newly elected mayor, Talukder Abdul Khaleque, opened it on Thursday morning (22 June).

The mayor said it is a traditional market of the southern region where a large number of animals are sold, and city residents benefit from the revenue it earns. Everyone involved in running the market must therefore collect the toll with honesty and dedication, he said. He also instructed them to make sure people coming to the market are not needlessly harassed.

Panel mayor and market management committee convener Md Aminul Islam Munna presided. Panel mayor Md Ali Akbar Tipu, Advocate Sufia Rahman Shunu, market committee member secretary and Ward 23 councillor Imam Hasan Chowdhury Moyna, and KCC secretary Md Azmul Haque also spoke.
