Kashmiri Hilsa to Go with Hot Rice

An easy recipe for Kashmiri hilsa, hilsa pieces cooked in Kashmiri chilli paste and mustard oil, to eat with hot rice.

In the rainy season, households everywhere rush to eat hilsa. Although the fish is expensive, many people buy a large hilsa from the market, even if only for one day, just to enjoy its tasty dishes.

One such delicious, mouth-watering dish is Kashmiri hilsa. You can easily make it at home with just a few ingredients. Here is the recipe.

Ingredients


  • 4 pieces of hilsa
  • 1 spoon poppy seed paste
  • 1 large spoon Kashmiri chilli paste
  • salt to taste
  • ground cumin
  • ground turmeric
  • mustard oil as needed

Method


Heat oil in a large pan. Lightly fry the hilsa pieces, rubbed with salt and turmeric. Take the fish out and, in the same pan, stir the Kashmiri chilli paste and ground cumin well.

Cook it down for a while. Then add a little water, mix in salt to taste and cook the fish well. Take it off the heat after 7-10 minutes. You can add green chillies if you like. Your Kashmiri hilsa is ready, and this special hilsa dish goes wonderfully with hot rice.
