Central leaders of the Krishak League encouraged farmers by harvesting paddy in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj. At about 11am on Thursday 27 April they cut the ripe paddy on one acre belonging to farmer Ramzan Mia in the upazila's Gerajur haor.

Central committee president Samir Chanda said that, on the prime minister's instructions and as last time, every Krishak League member is again cutting paddy and bringing it to the granary as a friend of haor farmers, so that the country is self-sufficient in food and farmers can smile. Every member will keep at it until the haor harvest is finished, he said.

He said BRRI dhan28 had been hit by blast this year, which the prime minister is well aware of. Scientists have developed the improved Bangabandhu 100 variety to replace BRRI dhan28, he said, and if the improved varieties are grown, "the virus can no longer do damage". Farmers are being advised to grow the improved varieties in future.

Farmer Ramzan Mia said the harvest is in full swing in the haor, so labour is expensive. Krishak League activists cut the paddy on his acre, which helped him a lot, and he thanked them.
