'Kalo Manik', the much-talked-about bull from Uttar Jhatibunia village in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali, has finally been sold. Farmer Sohag Mia sold the 45-maund bull, which was once given as a gift to former prime minister Khaleda Zia, for Tk 20 lakh.
The bull was sold on 24 May at the Uttara Diabari cattle market in the capital. The huge animal drew great interest from buyers and visitors across the market, and many crowded round to see it and take photographs with it.
Asked Tk 22 lakh, sold for Tk 20 lakh
Sohag Mia said he had raised the bull for seven long years, like his own child. He first asked Tk 22 lakh, but in the end sold it for Tk 20 lakh to Fahim, a trader from Sylhet.
"With the money from selling the bull I want to set up a large cattle farm," Sohag Mia said. "The man who bought it has invited me. I am now in Sylhet with my family. Everyone please pray for me."
Kalo Manik was about 12 feet long and 6 feet tall. People came from far and wide every day to Sohag Mia's home to see the huge bull.
Last year Sohag took Kalo Manik to Khaleda Zia as a gift. After he was advised to use the bull for his family's financial well-being, he brought it back home and continued to raise it.
