Government to Buy Tk 132 Crore of Urea Fertiliser From KAFCO

The government will buy 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company (KAFCO) in the first lot for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The government will buy 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser in a first lot from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) for the current 2026-27 fiscal year.

The proposal was approved on Thursday, 30 July, at a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase at the Secretariat, chaired by finance minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

According to the Ministry of Industries' proposal, buying the 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea from KAFCO will cost a total of Tk 1,326,290,625 (about Tk 132.63 crore).

The price of urea has been set at 357.25 US dollars a tonne, with Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) Bangladesh named as the recommended bidder. The committee approved the proposal after discussion.
