Egg production has risen in Jhalokathi district. Over the past year, 73 lakh more eggs were produced than the target. With demand for eggs growing in the district, many people are taking an interest in poultry, but farmers are worried about the rising price of chicken feed.

The district livestock department said it would keep working to raise egg production and demand further. Jhalokathi produced 7 crore 93 lakh eggs in the past year, against a demand of 7 crore 20 lakh, exceeding the target by 73 lakh. The district now has 52 layer farms, 53 Sonali chicken farms and 122 duck farms. Most of the demand for eggs is met by layer and duck farms.

Farmers and retailers said sales have been better this year than before. But with the price of feed rising, they are struggling, and farm owners have demanded a cut in feed prices.

Mohammad Saheb Ali, Jhalokathi livestock officer, told Jagonews that both egg production and demand have risen in the district. Because production is good locally, sellers can collect eggs easily and transport costs are lower. He said he hoped egg production in the district would increase further.
