Seven snakes were found at once at the Karuakathi community clinic in Magar union of Nalchity upazila, Jhalakathi. Two of them were venomous, and the discovery has spread fear among local people.

Community health care provider (CHCP) Marjia Khanam spotted the snakes in the clinic at around 9am on Wednesday, 8 October.

Local people believe gaps and holes have opened up in the clinic building because it has not been repaired for a long time, and that snakes have made their home there.

"I entered the clinic at around 9am for duty and saw a snake moving on the floor," Marjia Khanam said. "When I screamed, several local people came running, and together they caught a total of seven snakes from holes in the floor and from the bathroom."

"It is frightening to work in such an old building," she added. "Seven snakes were caught today; there could be more tomorrow. If the building is not repaired quickly, doing our duty will become risky."

Local people said such dangers could be avoided if the building were repaired and kept clean regularly. Nalchity upazila nirbahi officer Lovely Yasmin said she had heard that snakes were rescued from the Magar union community clinic and that the necessary steps would be taken after looking into the details.
