Two people have died after being gored by a buffalo at a sacrificial animal market in Dewanganj, Jamalpur. Mojibur Rahman died while under treatment at Jamalpur General Hospital on Monday (25 May).

On Sunday (24 May) a man named Ruhul Amin was killed when a buffalo gored him at the Sanandabari sacrificial animal market in the upazila's Char Amkhawa union. Several others were injured in the same incident.

Mojibur Rahman was the son of the late Nur Mohammad of Char Madar village in the Sanandabari area. The other victim, Ruhul Amin, was from Karaidangipara village in Jauniar, Rajibpur upazila.

According to police and local sources, a man from the local village of Akandapara brought several buffaloes to the Sanandabari market on Sunday to sell. After arriving, one buffalo suddenly became agitated and went out of control. It began running around the market, goring people in its path.

People at the market ran in panic to escape. At least six people, including Ruhul Amin, were injured. Ruhul Amin, who was seriously hurt, died on the way to hospital.

Mojibur Rahman, also seriously injured, was first taken to Dewanganj Upazila Health Complex and then, as his condition worsened, sent to Jamalpur General Hospital, where he died on Monday.

Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dewanganj Model Police Station, said Mojibur Rahman, injured when the buffalo suddenly gored him, had died while under treatment, bringing the death toll to two. No one has filed a complaint with the police over the incident, he said.
