As in every year, Jahangirnagar University (JU) will host the 20th "Bird Fair 2020" to raise public awareness of bird conservation. Carrying the slogan "Birds are the country's jewels, let us all take care of them", the fair will be held on Friday (24 January) in front of the university's Zahir Raihan Auditorium.

The fair's convener, Professor Md Kamrul Hasan of the university's zoology department, gave the information to Jago News on Wednesday (22 January).

Kamrul Hasan said the zoology department has organised the bird fair every year since 2001. This year too, it has been arranged to keep that tradition going and to involve everyone in protecting birds.

He said Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam will open the fair at 9:30am on Friday in front of the Zahir Raihan Auditorium. The day-long programme will include:

• an inter-university birdwatching competition;
• a bird photography exhibition;
• a bird drawing competition for children and teenagers;
• birdwatching for children and teenagers with telescopes and binoculars;
• a stall decoration competition (with bird photographs and newspaper and magazine displays);
• an inter-university bird identification competition (using audio-visual material);
• a bird quiz open to everyone present;
• and finally a prize-giving and closing ceremony.

The co-organisers of the fair are the Wildlife Rescue Centre, Bangladesh Bird Club, Arannayk Foundation, Prokriti O Jibon Foundation, the Zoological Society of Bangladesh, IUCN, Channel 24 and the Bangladesh Forest Department.
