Chhatra Dal leaders have planted more than a hundred fruit, medicinal and flower saplings at the second campus of Jagannath University (JnU) to mark World Environment Day and the birthday of Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

The planting was held on the afternoon of Saturday 21 June as part of a 15-day tree planting programme announced centrally by Chhatra Dal. Md Mahamudul Hasan Khan (Mahmud), joint convener of the JnU unit of Chhatra Dal, was present with leaders and activists from various levels of the organisation.

The JnU unit joint convener said Chhatra Dal has always been committed to protecting the rights of the people of this land, the environment and future generations. "Inspired by the ideals of martyred President Ziaur Rahman, we strive to protect the balance of the environment," he said.

He added: "We are working to make a success of the tree planting initiative taken by our future statesman Tarique Rahman. Chhatra Dal has always played a leading role not only in the struggle for political rights but on every progressive and humane issue of national life. Protecting the environment is an important challenge for Bangladesh today, and Chhatra Dal is fighting on, holding that challenge close."
