Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said overall preparations, including security, for the coming Eid-ul-Azha are good.

He said this while briefing journalists after visiting the qurbani cattle market next to the Moitri Sangha Club in North Shahjahanpur in the capital on the afternoon of Wednesday, 4 June.

The adviser said a large number of Ansar members had been deployed at every qurbani market this year for security. Besides the police, leaseholders had opened control rooms.

He said check-ups had been arranged so that sick animals could not enter the markets, and medical teams were stationed so that any buyer or seller who fell ill or was injured could get treatment. Overall, market management and preparations for this Eid were very good, he said.

"We want cattle to have a normal price at which the farmer or grower benefits and the buyer also benefits, so that both sides' interests are protected and no one is harmed," he said.

If cattle prices fall too low, farmers suffer, and if they rise, consumers suffer, he said. "So we want a price to be set at which both sides gain."

Answering a journalist's question, the adviser said every truck carrying qurbani animals would have written on its front which market it was going to, with a banner to that effect. Instructions had been given to take action against anyone who tried to break this rule.
