How to Keep Your Hearing Healthy

Experts share simple habits to protect hearing, from keeping noise down to having the ears checked once a year.

Hearing is as important in our lives as sight, and it is our two ears that do the work of hearing.

Our hearing can be damaged by many problems, including loud noise and water or dirt getting into the ears.

Experts say these are the things to do to keep your hearing healthy:

  • Mental depression can sometimes reduce hearing, so keep your spirits up.
  • Noise pollution hits the eardrum. Avoid very loud sounds, and keep the volume bearable when watching television or listening to music.
  • Clean the ears regularly.
  • Poking the ears with a finger or cotton buds can injure the inner wall and cause infection. Hearing may also fall, which is very dangerous.
  • Do not talk on the phone for long periods.

Have your ears checked once a year, and if any problem appears, be sure to see a doctor.
