Greenforce buys plant-based egg maker Neggst ahead of its own takeover by Livekindly

The Berlin startup, which makes egg whites, yolks and shells from fava beans, peas and sweet potatoes under European patents, will join Livekindly Collective once that deal closes.

German plant-based food producer Greenforce has acquired Berlin-based vegan egg startup Neggst, a deal linked to Greenforce's own pending takeover by the US holding company Livekindly Collective, Green Queen reports. Neggst co-founder and chief executive Veronica Garcia-Arteaga confirmed the transaction this week and said she was leaving the company.

Founded in 2021 on research Garcia-Arteaga did at the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging, Neggst uses fava beans, yellow peas and sweet potatoes to make egg whites, yolks and encapsulation components, which are combined into vegan poached and scrambled eggs, egg bites and patties. It holds European patents on its egg white, yolk, shell, poached egg and liquid egg formulations and sells through food service in Germany, France and Spain.

Neggst has raised 7 million euros ($7.8 million) in venture funding, plus a ZIM grant and a loan from Rentenbank. Once Livekindly's purchase of Greenforce is official, it will gain access to that group's industrial manufacturing and global distribution.

Egg alternatives remain a tiny part of Europe's plant-based market, but avian flu and Newcastle disease pushed European egg prices to a decade high last year. Germany is Europe's largest buyer of plant-based alternatives, with sales above 1.7 billion euros in 2025. The deal is part of a consolidation wave in which more than 90 alternative protein companies have been acquired, merged, become insolvent or closed since September 2024.
