A sick langur of a rare species, rescued from the Dubail area of Gopalpur municipal town in Tangail, has been released into Madhupur National Park after treatment. Manjurul Alam, officer-in-charge for Gopalpur and Madhupur, confirmed this on Thursday (June 10).

Before that, on Wednesday (June 9), the rare langur had been lying in critical condition at a house.

Officer-in-charge Manjurul Alam said that on being informed, officials went to Dubail in the afternoon and rescued the langur, which was then given first aid. At 9pm it was released into the national park with the permission of the divisional forest officer.

A few days earlier the langur had suddenly arrived at the house of businessman Mamun Mia in Dubail. Local people crowded to the house when they heard, and some fed it bananas and bread.

On June 7 the langur came down from a tree to eat, and a dog bit it on the back, leaving it ill. The businessman put medicine on the wound. For the next two days he called 999 but got no help.

On the morning of Wednesday (dated June 8 in this part of the report), the langur, soaked by rain, grew weaker and fell from the tree to the ground. Local people covered it with polythene.
