Prothom Alo's daily photo feature 'Ekjhalak' (Glimpse) on 20 October brought ten scenes of fields, rivers and nature from around Bangladesh.
At Jindakathi in Nesarabad upazila, Pirojpur, growers bring ambarella from their orchards to market by boat. Ambarella yields well across Jhalokati and Pirojpur; a busy market sits every afternoon, the wholesalers weigh and sack the fruit, and it goes by road to the rest of the country. A maund of ambarella now sells for Tk 900 to 1,200 (photo: Saiyan).
In Baliakhuri village of Thakurgaon Sadar a farmer tends his bean field (Majibar Rahman Khan). In the Gamari Bagan area of Rangamati a hill woman picks Malabar spinach from her own plot, and in Chilarjhar, Rangpur, a man has brought his cattle out to graze in the autumn sun.
At Chalalkandi in Sonatala, Bogura, the Jamuna has dried into chars in places and is knee- or waist-deep in others, and elderly men and women wade through to the char. In Sariakandi in the same district, at the Kalitola groyne, fishermen were catching fish in the Jamuna despite the 22-day ban that began on 8 October to protect breeding hilsa (Soel Rana).
In Kudghata, Barishal city, the golden afternoon light turns the kash flowers yellow (Saiyan), and in Kazitula, Sylhet, fallen shiuli flowers lie beside the road (Anis Mahmud). A sparrow perches on a banyan branch in Bagmara, Khulna, and a striped sunbird sips nectar in Kumra Til, Rangamati (Saddam Hossain, Supriyo Chakma).
The ambarella season, the start of winter vegetables and the hilsa breeding season all appear together in the day's pictures.
