The Forest Department has raided a bird market at Tongi in Gazipur city. A number of birds were rescued and later released in Bhawal National Park in Gazipur.

The raid on Sunday morning (26 February) was led by Sharmin Akter, divisional forest officer of the Dhaka Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Division. Wildlife inspector Nigar Sultana was also present.

The raid rescued one tokay gecko, one baghdasha (civet), six purple swamphens, eight doves and four parakeets. Divisional forest officer Sharmin Akter then released the animals in Bhawal National Park.

Present at the time were wildlife and biodiversity conservation officer Rubia Islam, national park range officer Kazi Nazmul Haque, Bhawal range officer Masud Rana, wildlife inspector Nigar Sultana, park beat officer Habibur Rahman and other Forest Department staff.
