The government and related agencies are working in a co-ordinated way to ensure a comfortable environment for buyers and sellers at the capital's cattle markets, said Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.

He said this while visiting the Gabtoli cattle market in Dhaka at midday on Tuesday (26 May).

The state minister said management had improved on the basis of instructions given during a market visit about 15 days earlier. Collection of hasil at 5 per cent of an animal's total price, with a receipt, has been ensured, and money receipts are also being monitored to keep transactions transparent.

He said that if rain causes temporary problems, city corporation workers will immediately drain the water and level the ground, and wherever mud or hardship arises, quick action will be taken with bricks, sand and brick chips.

Referring to round-the-clock monitoring, a control room, watchtowers and the presence of law enforcement agencies, Mir Shahe Alam said Rab, police and the city corporation were working together to ensure security.

He urged buyers and sellers to co-operate with the market management authorities.

The administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner and senior officials of the relevant departments were present.
