FMC Corporation has submitted the regulatory dossier for rimisoxafen to Brazilian authorities, its second submission worldwide after the US Environmental Protection Agency. FMC describes rimisoxafen as the first and only herbicide with a dual mode of action; it is classified by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee under Groups 12 and 32.

Brazil grows about 50 million hectares of soybeans and more than 20 million hectares of corn, and farmers face resistant broadleaf weeds including Amaranthus hybridus, resistant to glyphosate and ALS inhibitors, and Amaranthus palmeri. In FMC field testing, the company says, rimisoxafen has shown consistent activity against small-seeded broadleaf weeds, including those resistant to other herbicides.

"Brazilian growers are facing complex weed resistance challenges that demand new and differentiated solutions," said Leonardo Bastos, FMC vice president and chief marketing officer. Rimisoxafen is FMC's third new herbicide active submitted in Brazil. It is not registered for sale or use anywhere, and formulated product submissions will follow.
