The Forest Department has rescued a fishing cat that entered a farmer's cowshed in Patharghata, Barguna. The animal was released into the Haringhata forest on the afternoon of Tuesday, 7 June.

Locals said the fishing cat entered the cowshed of Chan Mia in Purba Kalmegha village at around 11pm on Monday, 6 June, and attacked a cow. When it was chased, it became caught in a nearby net. Acting on information, Forest Department officials rescued the animal the next morning with help from members of Baghbandhu, a Sundarbans wildlife conservation team.

Md Abul Kalam, range officer of the Patharghata Forest Department, told Jagonews that after the rescue the fishing cat was treated at the livestock department. It was then set free in the local forest in the afternoon.
