A fishing cat cub has been caught in a trap set by a farmer in Gouripur, Mymensingh. The incident took place on Monday morning (19 October) in Koraikanda village of the upazila's Maoha union. Curious crowds gathered to see the fishing cat after hearing the news.

Locals said the fishing cat cub had been roaming Koraikanda village for about a month, and many villagers' ducks and chickens had already gone missing. On Sunday night (18 October), village farmer Sohel Mia made a trap by putting a chicken inside a cage and set it beside his house. The fishing cat was caught in it on Monday morning.

Sohel Mia said the fishing cat cub had been roaming the area and carrying off people's ducks and chickens, so he made the trap to catch it. The captured fishing cat has tiger-like stripes on its body.

Gouripur upazila nirbahi officer Hasan Maruf said he had received news of the fishing cat cub's capture and had asked the forest officer to rescue the animal and take the necessary steps.

Md Lutfur Rahman, the forest department's Gouripur range officer, said the fishing cat cub would be rescued and released in a forest area.
