The government has decided to import 110,000 tonnes of fertiliser from Belarus, Morocco and Saudi Arabia: 30,000 tonnes of MOP, 40,000 tonnes of DAP and 40,000 tonnes of urea.
The proposals were recommended for approval at a meeting of the cabinet committee on government purchase at the Secretariat on Wednesday, 9 September, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.
MOP from Belarus
On a proposal from the agriculture ministry, the meeting recommended the private-sector import of 30,000 tonnes of MOP from Belarus through M/s Sufala Trading Corporation. The price has been set at $398.97 per tonne. At Tk 122.92 to the dollar, the fertiliser will cost Tk 147.20 crore.
DAP from Morocco
On another agriculture ministry proposal, the import of 40,000 tonnes of DAP was approved on a government-to-government (G2G) basis under an agreement signed between Morocco's OCP Nutricrops SA and the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC). The price has been set at $889.33 per tonne, which comes to Tk 439,86,26,180 in Bangladeshi currency.
Urea from Saudi Arabia
In addition, on a proposal from the industries ministry, the import of 40,000 tonnes of bulk granular urea from Saudi Arabia's SABIC Agri-Nutrients Company in the 2026-27 financial year was approved. The price has been set at $391.66 per tonne, for a total of Tk 193,71,50,360.
