An "Environment Olympiad" was held in the capital to build environmental awareness among underprivileged children. Breath of Nature (BON) Foundation organised the event on 27 June at the Mojar School campus in Maniknagar, Dhaka, under the theme "Green Minds, Bright Future".

Mountaineer and writer Ikramul Hasan Shakil joined more than a hundred students in a lively conversation about the environment, nature and dreams, and shared his experience of climbing Mount Everest. A documentary film on the Everest expedition was also screened for the students, and he answered the children's many questions on environmental conservation, climate change and protecting nature.

Speakers said: "Today's children will lead tomorrow's fight to protect the environment. So families, educational institutions and everyone in society must work together to build love of nature, a sense of responsibility and an environment-friendly mindset in them."

The organisers said the event was arranged to make children responsible towards the environment from an early age. Mojar School was co-organiser and Kishor Alo joined as knowledge partner.
