As in previous years, the authorities concerned have been instructed to remove animal waste by evening on Eid-ul-Azha, Local Government Minister Md Tajul Islam has said. He also said that, again this year, animals must be sacrificed at designated places.

He told journalists this after a meeting in the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Secretariat on Wednesday (14 June).

Also present were Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Barishal City Corporation Mayor Sadiq Abdullah, Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and Local Government Division Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim, along with officials of various government offices.

Tajul Islam said animal waste is usually removed by evening, and the same instruction has been given this time. Animals must also be sacrificed at designated places, and firm efforts have been made to ensure this so that there is no pollution.

He said cattle markets cannot be set up anywhere outside designated places, and under no circumstances can they be held beside roads in a way that blocks traffic.

All city corporations, municipalities, district and upazila administrations and union parishads have completed preparations for the sacrifice and for removing waste as quickly as possible, the minister said. Proper legal action will be taken through mobile courts to ensure markets are not held outside designated places and do not disrupt public life.

The minister said a target has been set to collect sacrificial animal waste before sunset. To involve the public, awareness committees led by councillors have been formed in every ward so that blood and waste are not dumped just anywhere. If people are motivated and aware and cooperate, removing and collecting the waste becomes easier, he said.

Md Tajul Islam added that proper measures will be taken so that cattle markets do not become a source of dengue.

The minister also said steps have been taken to install machines to detect counterfeit notes at the markets, and all arrangements will be in place for payments through mobile financial services.
