Beans have been sown across a large area of Harinakunda upazila in Jhenaidah this year, and growers are profiting from the early crop.

Selling early-variety beans at good prices for a small outlay has put smiles on farmers' faces.

The upazila office of the Department of Agricultural Extension said early vegetables are being grown on 41 hectares this year.

The area covers beans, brinjal, red amaranth, Indian spinach and tomato.

Favourable weather has produced a good bean yield, and the high market price has left growers satisfied.

Farmers have planted mostly the hybrid Habil and Rupban bean varieties, which have given higher yields locally.

Vegetables that reach the market at the start of the season always fetch more; the risk of early planting is unseasonal rain and pest attack.
