Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has taken various measures to remove waste from sacrifice and from the animal markets. As part of this, removal of waste from the animal markets will begin at 11pm today (Saturday), and removal of sacrificial animal waste will begin at 2pm on Sunday. A total of 9,050 DSCC workers will be engaged in the work.
DSCC public relations officer Abu Naser gave the information in a press release on Saturday (9 July).
Control room and zone teams
The release said a central control room had been set up at Nagar Bhaban to coordinate and centrally supervise the removal of waste from the animal markets and from sacrificed animals. It will run round the clock in three sessions, staffed by departmental heads and officers and employees of the corporation's various departments.
In addition, ten teams led by zonal executive officers have been formed for the corporation's ten zones to supervise the removal work on the ground. The teams will start work at 2pm on Sunday.
Bags, bleach and vehicles
The release said 120,000 biodegradable bags had been supplied for waste removal, and 28 tonnes of bleaching powder and 205 gallons of Savlon had been supplied to stop germs spreading from the waste. Another 26 tonnes of bleaching powder and 108 gallons of Savlon are held in stock at Nagar Bhaban for supply if needed.
A total of 353 vehicles of 13 types will take part in the waste removal.
