Three mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) have fined 16 traders nearly Tk 1 lakh — Tk 75,000 in all — for setting up unauthorised animal markets at different places in the city.

The mobile courts were conducted on Saturday, 15 June, at Jigatala, the Khilgaon railway line and Palashi crossing in the south city.

The drives were led respectively by Mohammad Shafiur Rahman, regional executive officer of DSCC Zone-3 and an executive magistrate; Md Moniruzzaman, the corporation's estate officer and an executive magistrate; and executive magistrate Md Jahangir Alam.

Zone-3 executive magistrate Mohammad Shafiur Rahman said: "A small unauthorised goat market in front of the Salek Garden kitchen market on Jigatala New Road was cleared, and a fine of Tk 10,000 was imposed."

On the drive against an unauthorised market in the Khilgaon railway line area, Md Moniruzzaman said: "No market will be allowed on the road, particularly in any place that is not authorised. Three traders in this area have been fined Tk 15,000."

Executive magistrate Md Jahangir Alam said: "Traders had set up with goats on both sides of Palashi crossing. The city corporation has not given permission for a market here, so 11 traders at this unauthorised market have been fined Tk 50,000."

The animals from the unauthorised markets were later sent to the nearest authorised markets. In all, 16 traders were fined a total of Tk 75,000 on the day for setting up unauthorised markets.
