Bangladesh has expressed interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation with Italy in fisheries and livestock.

The two sides discussed expanding cooperation in aquaculture, livestock, marine fisheries and several areas of the blue economy.

A press release from the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock received in Dhaka carried the details.

At the meeting, state minister for fisheries and livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku set out the contribution of the two sectors to Bangladesh's food security, nutrition, employment and household livelihoods.

Farmers in fisheries and livestock will be brought under the farmer card, he said, and will receive the same government facilities as crop farmers.

For fish farmers and trawler owners in the coastal districts the announcement matters, because a farmer card eases access to subsidies and credit.
