Chilly winds are blowing and winter has begun to set in across much of the country, with the lowest temperature already down to 11 degrees. A cold wave may hit the country in the second half of this month, the minimum temperature could fall to six degrees, and a cyclone may also form this month.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department gave this information in its forecast for December.

The department said rainfall across the country is likely to be normal overall this December. One or two low-pressure areas may form over the southern Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas this month, one of which could intensify into a depression or cyclone.

Day and night temperatures across the country may fall gradually. In the second half of the month, one or two mild (8-10°C) to moderate (6-8°C) cold waves may sweep the western and northern parts of the country.

The forecast also said moderate to dense fog may form over the river basins from midnight to morning in December, with light to moderate fog elsewhere. The major rivers are expected to maintain normal flow this month.

The department also forecast average daily evaporation of 2.25 to 4.25 millimetres and average bright sunshine of 6 to 8 hours this December.
