The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined five businesses in Cumilla a total of Tk 13,000 for not displaying price lists and selling chicken at inflated prices.

Md Asadul Islam, assistant director of the directorate in Cumilla, led the drive at the Tomchom Bridge kacha bazar in the city on the afternoon of Saturday, 20 August.

He said market monitoring drives began in Cumilla on Thursday, and Saturday's raid on the Tomchom Bridge market was part of that campaign. The five businesses were fined for failing to hang price lists in a visible place, selling chicken at whatever price they chose and giving short weight.

Insaf Broiler House was fined Tk 2,000, Motaleb's chicken shop Tk 2,000, Ratri Broiler House Tk 4,000 and Rabiul's chicken shop Tk 2,000. Bindu Mia's fish shop was fined Tk 3,000 for mixing harmful jelly into shrimp.

Cumilla safe food inspector AK Azad and a police team were present during the drive. Md Asadul Islam said such drives would continue.
