The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection ran drives across the country to make sure liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cooking cylinders are sold at the government-fixed price. On Saturday, 3 October, 23 teams from the directorate simultaneously inspected dealers, wholesalers and retailers of gas cylinders, Bangla Tribune reported, citing a commerce ministry press release.

The release said the drives aim to keep prices of essentials stable, ensure normal supply of cylinders and stop sellers charging above the fixed price. Teams checked whether shops displayed price lists, kept and issued purchase and sale vouchers, followed cylinder safety rules and sold any expired cylinders.

Traders were told not to create an artificial shortage, hoard without reason or obstruct supply, and were warned to display updated price lists where customers can see them and to sell cylinders at the fixed price.

The directorate advised consumers to check a cylinder's weight, seal, expiry date and any visible defects before buying, to compare the price with the list, and to collect a receipt or voucher.

Consumers who find irregularities in cylinder sales can complain on the directorate's hotline, 16121. The ministry said such drives will continue to keep order and fair prices in the market. The news came from state agency BSS.
