A labourer named Abdul Halim Sheikh, 50, has been killed by electrocution after going to drink water in a dragon fruit orchard in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district. The incident happened at about 12:30pm on Friday, 20 September, in Shahjahan's dragon fruit orchard in Majhad village of Alamdanga upazila.

After the incident, police officials including Chuadanga Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Anisuzzaman visited the spot.

Locals and eyewitnesses said Abdul Halim Sheikh was working as a labourer in a banana orchard on Friday morning. When he got thirsty, he went to Shahjahan's neighbouring dragon fruit orchard to drink water. To prevent theft, the orchard owner had electrified a GI wire around the orchard. Unaware of this, Abdul Halim Sheikh got caught in the wire and died on the spot.

Confirming the incident, Alamdanga police station OC Sheikh Gani Mia said the body was recovered and sent to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem.
