A farmer named Abdur Razzak, 40, has died of a snakebite in Akandabaria village of Chuadanga Sadar. He died while under treatment at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital at around 1:30pm on Friday, 28 July.

Earlier, at around 10am, a venomous snake bit him on the right leg while he was working on his farm. When he fell ill, his family took him to the house of a kabiraj (ojha, or exorcist) in Munshiganj village of Alamdanga upazila. After the exorcism, his condition worsened and he was taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.

Abdur Razzak was the son of the late Abdul Hossain of Akandabaria village under Darshana police station in Chuadanga Sadar upazila.

According to his family, he was working in a paddy field on Friday morning when a venomous snake bit his right leg. Other farmers helped him home. When he became seriously ill he was taken to the kabiraj's house in Munshiganj village; the family could not give the ojha's name. After about an hour of exorcism his condition worsened and he was admitted to the Sadar hospital, where he died a little later.

Dr Sadia Ariz, the doctor on duty in the emergency department of Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said that going by the family's account and the patient's condition, he appeared to have been injured by a snakebite. He was admitted after first aid and died a short while later.
