Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has called on everyone to plant at least one tree to curb environmental pollution.

He made the call on Thursday (17 March) while opening a tree-planting programme on the Supreme Court premises marking the 102nd birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day.

"As you know, environmental pollution is being seen all over the world. We must find a way out of it somehow. Let us all plant at least one tree each. If each of the country's 18 crore people plants a tree, 18 crore trees will be planted, and that will remove environmental pollution," the Chief Justice said.

The programme began with prayers led by the Chief Justice and judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions, who then planted more than a hundred fruit trees. The Supreme Court's registrar general and other officials were present.

Earlier in the morning, the Chief Justice laid a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32.
